Stream restoration can occur in urban or rural settings and may involve channel modification, floodplain modification or riparian corridor restoration. RWE evaluates stream restoration sites by taking a watershed-level view of ecological function and assess the site for potential impacts associated with sea level rise and climate change in the early stages of design. We work on urban and rural streams in all landscape positions.

Project Type Examples:

  • Floodplain Reconnection

  • Urban Stream Restoration

  • Stream Daylighting

  • Stream Mitigation

  • Large Woody Debris and Bioengineering

  • Natural Channel Design

  • Regenerative Stormwater Conveyance

We design stream restoration projects using fluvial geomorphic data collected during the preliminary stages of the project to inform the overall approach. As part of the process, RWE takes into consideration channel substrate, hydrology, hydraulics, and rates of erosion as part of the design. Additional design criteria may include improvement of water quality and fish habitat, water quality requirements, spatial limitations, context within the landscape/site, and aesthetic value.

Let us support you with your stream restoration & mitigation needs. We will work to…

  • Design a comprehensive stream restoration project

  • Reduce sediment load to the watercourse and improve water quality for fish and benthic macroinvertebrates

  • Navigate the regulatory climate to get your wetlands project approved – USACOE, State, and local permitting expertise throughout the Mid-Atlantic and beyond
