Watershed management

One of the most common issues identified in Watershed Management Plans, Watershed Protection Plans, and Regional Stormwater Plans in New Jersey is related to the volume of stormwater directed to streams and rivers. There are multiple causes for this issue:

  • Impacts to natural wetlands

  • Construction in floodplains

  • Impervious cover

The effects of increased stormwater volume:

  • Increased volume is one of the key destructive attributes of stormwater associated with developed watersheds

  • This change often leads to channel downcutting and widening, bank instability, increased sediment loads and more… bulk of TSS load is due to instream erosion

  • As a result of these human induced impacts many streams have little interaction with their floodplains…and thus compromised floodplain functions

Solutions

RWE can help you address stormwater through green infrastructure and non-structural stormwater management techniques. We will work to…

  • Incorporate natural design elements into engineered stormwater features

  • Work to restore degraded or compromised natural areas

  • Address regulatory issues

  • Work within site constraints to maximize stormwater treatment
